Hooray, Interleague!

Welcome back, interleague play. We get our first taste of it tonight with matchups like Boston at Philadelphia, Cincinnati at New York, and Chicago at…well…Chicago. This is the last time we’ll see interleague in it’s current form, with the realignment occurring next year…Houston’s AL move finally gives us 2 even leagues with even divisions, which will lead to a balanced schedule and a much more spread-out set of interleague games. But is Major League Baseball moving in the right direction? View full article »

Survival Sunday and the Stanley Cup Playoff’s

So to say that I have been riding an anger high since Sunday would be a little bit of an understatement. I know a lot of you are not big soccer fans, if at all, but this past Sunday was what is known as Survival Sunday. Teams were playing for a variety of different things. You had Manchester United and City playing to be crowned EPL champions; Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle were playing for a potential spot in Champions League; and Bolton, Queens Park and I believe Aston Villa were all fighting to not be relegated to a lower league. It was a pretty big day in the EPL and all ten games were broadcast in the USA on nine different FOX affiliates and ESPN. View full article »

The quest for Lord Stanley 2012

Good Day FTL’ers, it is that time of year again, put the razors away for at least two weeks and let your playoff beards grow. Hands down the most exciting post season in all sports gets underway as the quest to raise Lord Stanley begins. This year every game will be televised on one of NBC’s many channels meaning you won’t miss any of the actions which is a great part of their new deal with the NHL. Unfortunately for me the Avalanche didn’t pull it out at the end of the season so now I am waiting to see if my preseason choice of the Capitals will come true. I have to say they are actually one of the more dangerous teams in the playoffs this year, why you ask? Because normally Washington is coming into the post season as a 1 or 2 seed with one of the best records in the league, this year they were horrible for the majority of the season, then hit their stride late. They are now in the zone and are possibly not being taken seriously. That is a recipe for disaster. View full article »

Rytor’s Baseball Adventure: Day 7

Back again! Let me tell you this straight off the bat: JetBlue Park at Fenway South is NOT a fun place to do a TV broadcast. I spent about 5 hours in 85 degree heat laying cables all over the place because of their lack of accessible cable panels. I’m surprised I’m not a lobster right now. Anyway, onto the game…

Rytor’s Baseball Adventure: Day 2

Here are some observations from yesterday’s Tigers @ Phillies game at Bright House Field in Clearwater:

- Detroit is going to have a scary-balanced lineup if everyone stays healthy. Everything lines up perfectly for lefty-righty matchups with Jackson, Boesch, Cabrera, Fielder, Young. If Alex Avila can get back to the way he started in 2011 and Ryan Raburn finally starts to break out like I expect him to, this team is going to score a ton. Buster Olney mentioned yesterday that they lead the Grapefruit League in runs scored/game with an average of over SIX. Don’t think they can quite keep that up, but it should be close. Imagine if they still had Victor Martinez this year! View full article »

Rytor’s Baseball Adventure: Day 1

I’m down here in Florida for the next 3 weeks covering Spring Training all the way through Opening Day Weekend. I’ve got a brand new piece of software (that I’ve basically spent the entirety of the past 6 months working on) that we will be testing in the upcoming games. So if you see a “Hot Zone” graphic appear in today’s Tigers/Phillies game (1 PM EST on ESPN) – you can point to this guy for making it happen! View full article »

Three weeks till the true Quest for Lord Stanley

Good Afternoon Rink Rats! So here we are, coming around the home stretch of the 2011/2012 NHL regular season. Each team now has between 8 and 11 games left, Colorado having 8 and a majority having 10 or 11 games left in the season. What I wanted to do was take a look at where everyone stands right now, as compared to where I thought they would finish before the season got underway. View full article »

Will he get another chance?

The NHL has seen a tremendous amount of coaching changes this season. Eight coaches have been fired this season by their respective teams. St. Louis started it all off by firing Davis Payne on Nov. 6; he was followed by Bruce Boudreau and Carolina’s Paul Maurice on Nov. 28, the Ducks’ Randy Carlyle on Nov. 30, Montreal’s Jacques Martin on Dec. 17, Kings Terry Murray on Dec. 20, Blue Jackets Scott Arniel on Jan. 8, and finally the Leafs fired Ron Wilson on March 2nd.

Time To Move On Columbus…

For many years now the Columbus Blue Jackets have tried to build around one name. They have changed coaches and brought in many different types of players all for the purpose of keeping him happy. Columbus fans may not want to hear it, but it is time to move on and rid themselves of this cancer which has run a franchise to the ground. View full article »
